To assist in reducing the volume of trash placed at the curb for collection, the City has expanded its recycling program.
The City will now accept all of the following items for recycling:
--Number 1-7 plastics
--Cardboard
--Glass
--Metal cans
--Newspaper
--PaperRecycling will continue on the existing weekly schedule.
Recycle bins may be purchased from the Department of Public Works for $5 each. Damaged bins may be turned in for free replacement.
Specialized recycling days will be scheduled based on availability of funding. For details, watch local newspapers and Malden Access Television, or call the Department of Public Works.
Following is a list of items designated "hazardous" under Department of Environmental Protection guidelines:
--Tires
--Automotive Batteries
--Nickel Cadium Batteries
--Any oil based product, including paint, gasoline, kerosene and motor oil
--Cathode Ray Tubes, including televisions and computer monitors
--VCRs and tape decks
--Florescent light bulbsThese items must be disposed of on a Hazardous Recycling Day at the DPW. For additional information on recyclables, call 1-781-397-7160.
